ATLANTA – The No. 24 Georgia Tech softball team will host Ball State for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Glenn Field this Wednesday, March 17. The Yellow Jackets have not played since last week’s sweep over Saint Joseph’s, 9-1 (5) and 6-0 on March 11. Tech is 21-5 on the season and 5-1 at home. Ball State enters the match-up with an overall record of 1-11.
The Yellow Jackets remained No. 24 in the NFCA/USA Today Poll last week and moved up one spot to No. 24 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Poll. The new polls will be released tomorrow.
Tech upped its team batting average to .285 last week. Tech ranks second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in batting and in team pitching, with a staff ERA of 0.74.
Senior All-American shortstop Tara Knudsen and junior pitcher Jessica Sallinger continue to lead the Yellow Jackets. Knudsen is hitting .399, with a league-leading six home runs and 23 runs batted in. Sallinger is leading Tech in wins (12) and ERA (0.56), ranking second in the ACC in both.
Georgia Tech will host the 12th annual Buzz Classic this weekend, March 19-21, at Al Bishop Softball Complex, in Marietta, Ga. The Yellow Jackets will tangle with Austin Peay and Ohio at 3 and 6 p.m. on Friday, March 19. Tech will wrap up pool play against Nicholls State (1 p.m.) and Western Kentucky (3 p.m.) on Saturday, March 20. A single-elimination bracket will start at 8 p.m. on Saturday evening and continue through Sunday, with the championship game scheduled for 1 p.m.
