Jackets Poised for ACC Championships

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field teams head to Louisville, Ky. this week for the ACC Indoor Championships. Competition will take place from Thursday, Feb. 23 to Saturday, Feb. 25.

The ACC Championships will begin for Tech on Thursday at 4:05 p.m. with the women’s unseeded 5,000 meters final. The event setup will include a mixture of preliminaries and finals for the running events along with finals for the field events.

The Top 6 individuals and Top 3 relays have the ability to earn All-ACC honors. The Top 3 individuals, first place relay qualify for First Team All-ACC and the remaining top individuals, relays qualify for Second Team All-ACC.

The Jackets have experienced much success throughout the indoor season. Many of Tech’s standouts ranked nationally for their performances this season.

On the men’s side, Jamir Gibson ranks 28th in the shot put and 49th in the weight throw. The distance medley relay, comprised of Joshua Williams, Parker Buchheit, Jeremiah LaDuca and Nick Nyman ranks 47th in the NCAA.

Shanty Papakosta and Sheleah Harris hold national rankings for the women’s team. Papkosta sits at 38th in the high jump and Harris ranks 42nd in the 60-meter dash.

At the championships, the Jackets will face a lot of tough competition. The ACC has six teams ranked nationally; two men’s programs, three women’s programs and one entire program. These programs include No. 7/12 Notre Dame, No. 13 Florida State (Men), No. 23 Clemson (Men), No. 19 Virginia Tech (Women), No. 11 NC State (Women) and No. 25 Duke.
