ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech volleyball team will host its annual Fan Day on Saturday in O’Keefe Gymnasium from 1-3 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will perform a scrimmage for the fans and sign autographs afterwards.
“Our team is shaping up to be very strong this year,” said head coach Bond Shymansky. “Since we return all of our hitters, our offense will be tough to stop. The youth of last year’s team has matured and we know we will be in contention for another ACC title. Talisa Kellogg and Ulrike Stegemann will be powerhouse hitters again this fall. Abby Showers and Lindsey Gray will be the keys to our success as a team night in and night out. We are counting on having great fan support again this year to defend O’Keefe Gym and our place as the elite program in the conference.”
Kellogg and Stegemann were named to the preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team. The Jackets were selected to finish third in the conference, behind Duke and Virginia. Tech has accomplished a winning season in each of the past 15 years and has appeared in the NCAA Tournament in five of the past six seasons.
The Jackets will open up the season as host of the Regency Suites Midtown Invitational, Sept. 1-2, in O’Keefe Gym. Tech will take on Mississippi State at 12:30 p.m. and archrival Georgia at 6 p.m. on Friday, and Georgia State (9:30 a.m.) and Northern Iowa (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
