ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech volleyball team will open up the 2006 season as host of the Regency Suites Midtown Invitational, Sept. 1-2, in O’Keefe Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets will take on Mississippi State (3-0) at 12:30 p.m. and archrival Georgia (2-1) at 6 p.m. on Friday.
“Our team is incredibly motivated to start the season at home this year with two SEC opponents,” said Tech coach Bond Shymansky. “Words do not describe the excitement we all have to play Georgia on our opening day. We are counting on our fans to make a big impact on that match Friday night. We want to start things off right for such a big weekend for Georgia Tech athletics”
DURING THE GEORGIA-GEORGIA TECH GAME THERE WILL BE A RAFFLE TO GIVE TWO LUCKY TECH FANS A CHANCE TO WIN A PAIR OF NOTRE DAME-GEORGIA TECH FOOTBALL TICKETS IN BETWEEN THE SECOND AND THIRD MATCHES.

The Yellow Jackets will face in-state foe Georgia State at 9:30 a.m. and Northern Iowa at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tech holds a 31-3 match advantage over the Lady Panthers and is 0-1 lifetime against UNI.
The Jackets are yet to defeat the MSU Bulldogs (0-4) and are just 7-21 against UGA in the all-time series meetings. Under Shymansky’s tenure, Tech holds a 4-1 advantage over Georgia.
