Jackets Host No. 6 Georgia For In-State Showdown

ATLANTA – No. 22 Georgia Tech will host No. 6 Georgia on Wednesday, March 31, for a 2 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Glenn Field. The Yellow Jackets (31-7) and Bulldogs (32-6) will both be ranked for the first time in series history. Tech has won 13 of its last 15 ballgames, averaging 6.12 runs per game during that stretch, while holding its opponents to 0.61.

No. 6 Georgia enters the match-up on a six-game winning streak and has won 11 of its last 12 games. The Bulldogs just took a series from No. 5 LSU in Baton Rouge, La., which was the first time a Tiger squad had lost a season series since 1997. All-Americas Michelle Green and Nicole Barber lead the way for the ‘Dogs. Green is 14-3 with a 1.67 ERA and 190 strikeouts, while Barber is hitting .467 and has 39 stolen bases in 44 attempts.

Senior shortstop Tara Knudsen leads the Atlantic Coast Conference with a .434 average, nine home runs and 35 runs batted in. The 2002 All-American is hitting .587, with three home runs over her last nine ballgames.

The Tech pitching staff has already broken numerous school records, including the most shutouts by a Jacket squad with 19 thus far. Erin Voeltz and Jessica Sallinger have been the workhorses thus far, combining for all 31 wins. The staff currently has an ERA of 0.76.

Junior designated hitter Liz Bartle has been swinging the hottest bat for the Yellow Jackets as of late. Bartle went 5-for-5, with three doubles, two walks and five RBIs in Tech’s doubleheader against Troy State on Monday.

Georgia swept the season series a year ago, downing the Rambling Wreck 6-0 and 1-0 in Athens last year. The Bulldogs lead the overall series 10-2.
