Jackets Head to Virginia for 2004 Women's ACC Championships

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s swimming and diving team will travel to Charlottesville, Va., for the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship hosted by Virginia at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. The eight-team Women’s ACC Championships will be held Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 18-21 at the AFC. Admission to the championship is free of charge.

Preliminaries for the championship will be held Thursday through Saturday and will begin at 11:00 a.m. (there are no prelims on the Wednesday of each championship). Finals will commence at 7:00 p.m. daily. One-meter diving preliminaries will be held approximately 90 minutes after the conclusion of swimming prelims on the Thursday of both the women’s and men’s meets with finals the same evening. Three-meter diving prelims will take place approximately 90 minutes after Friday’s second day of swimming prelims with finals being held on the fourth and final night (Saturday) of the respective championships.

Freshman Vesna Stojanovska continues to lead the way for the Yellow Jackets. The Skopje, Macedonia, native ranks in the ACC and NCAA in the 200 free, 500 free and 200 butterfly. Stojanovska posted a league best time of 1:58.82 in the 200 fly and currently ranks 11th in the nation. She stands second in the conference in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.04, ranking her 40th in the NCAA. The final time of 4:51.70 in the 500 free places her eighth in the ACC and 50th in the NCAA.

Sophomore diver Laurissa Prystaj has also posted Top 10 marks in the ACC for the Jackets. The Fairport, N.Y., native broke her own school record on the three-meter springboard versus Emory (1/31) and tallied a score of 278.85 on the one-meter board to finish eighth in the ACC in both diving events. Prystaj and teammate Amy Sutton have both qualified for the NCAA B Diving Championships in Athens, Ga., on March 12-14.

The men’s ACC Championships will be held in the AFC from Feb. 25-28.
