Jackets Getting Healthier

Aug. 22, 2006

ATLANTA–As Georgia Tech’s season opener nears, the Yellow Jackets have welcomed the return to practice of several key players who have been nursing injuries, including defensive ends Darrell Robertson and Michael Johnson, fullback Michael Cox and guard Matt Rhodes.

Tech opens the season Sept. 2, when the Yellow Jackets host second-ranked Notre Dame in a nationally televised contest (ABC) at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field.

“Everybody practiced, except for [guard] Nathan McManus, so it was very encouraging,” said Tech head coach Chan Gailey after Tuesday’s workout, which was moved to the Georgia Dome due to the rain.

The Yellow Jackets began fall semester classes this week, and Tech has begun its game preparations for the Fighting Irish.

“They deserve to be ranked one, two or three,” Gailey said of Notre Dame, which stands second in the Associated Press poll and tied for third in the coaches’ poll.
