Jackets Finish Up Play at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On the final day of the June Stewart Invitational at Vanderbilt, the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team recorded one singles win and one doubles victory.

The Yellow Jackets faced William and Mary in doubles competition on the last day of the tournament. The #26-ranked duo of sophomores Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard recorded Tech’s only doubles win, defeating Nabila Farah and Leeza Nemchinov, 8-5.

Freshmen Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and Rasheeda McAdoo fell to Sydney Smith and Melanie Roy, 8-4. Anton-Ohlmeyer and McAdoo wrapped up the tournament with a 2-1 record in doubles.

In singles, the Yellow Jackets faced Vanderbilt. Freshman Rasheeda McAdoo notched her first win at Vanderbilt this weekend, defeating #51 Lauren Mira. Mira won set one, 6-1, but McAdoo answered with a 6-4 win in set two and a 6-2 victory in set three. This was McAdoo’s first win against a ranked opponent as a Yellow Jacket.

Against Sydney Campbell, Kurey was defeated 7-5, 6-0. Sophomore Natasha Prokhnevska faced Frances Altick as her opponent. Altick edged Prokhnevska 7-6 in the first set. Proknevska came back to win set two, 7-5, but eventually fell in the third frame, 6-2.

Anton-Ohlmeyer won her first set against #71 Georgina Sellyn, 6-3. Sellyn won the next two sets, 6-1, 6-0 to record the victory. Against Ashleigh Antal, Woodard won the first frame, 6-4, before being edged 7-6, 7-5. Senior Muriel Wacker was paired up against Marie Casares. Casares was up 5-0 before the match was retired.

Next up, the Jackets head to the USTA/ITA Regionals in Athens, Ga. which run from Oct. 18- Oct. 20.
