Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C. –Georgia Tech volleyball (12-15, 7-9 ACC) fell in three to North Carolina State (19-8, 14-2 ACC), 3-0 on Saturday.

Head coach Michelle Collier says:
“NC State has been having a great year, I felt like we competed well with them in all sets until the half way point and then we made mistakes that were very costly. We need to be better at the end of sets to come on top against a strong team like that. Fortunately, we have the opportunity to finish out the regular season strong at home in O’Keefe so we will get back in the gym and get ready for Clemson to come in on Wednesday.”

How it happened:
After trading points to start the set, the Jackets jumped ahead by two at 7-5 off a service ace from senior and Raleigh native, Gabby Benda. The Wolfpack tied the set back up at 8-8 before taking over the lead. The Jackets held tough, coming within two at 17-15 but a 5-1 run by the Wolfpack put the set out of reach for Tech. NC State took the 1-0 advantage with a 25-19 win over the first set.

The teams stayed close to start the second, tying to 11-11 before NC State snuck ahead by two at 13-11, causing the Jackets to call timeout. The timeout seemed to halt the Wolfpack’s momentum as Tech took the next two to tie it again at 13-13. The Wolfpack took a three-point lead at 21-18, inciting the Jackets to use their second timeout. This time NC State kept rolling and took the 2-0 lead with a 25-21 win over the second set.

Tech took the lead in the third at 9-8 on a ball handling error made by the Wolfpack. The Jackets clung onto their lead but NC State tied the score at 17-17. The Jackets called timeout to try to regain control of the set but NC State took the lead at 20-18. Using up its second timeout, Tech was unable to get anything going and the Wolfpack took the third at 25-20 for the 3-0 victory.

Tech returns home for its final four matches of the regular season. The Jackets host Clemson on Wednesday, Nov. 15 for senior night at 7 p.m. at O’Keefe Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets will be honoring seniors Ashley Askin, Benda, Gabriela Stavnetchei and Sydney Wilson.
