Jackets Fall to Old Dominion, 4-3

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech led 3-1 after collecting the doubles point and two singles victories, but Old Dominion rallied to win four singles matches as the Yellow Jackets dropped a 4-3 decision in the opening match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend Saturday morning.

DOUBLES
The Yellow Jackets collected the doubles point with decisive victories on courts two and three. Gia Cohen and Ruth Marsh gave Tech the early advantage, pocketing a come-from-behind triumph on court three. Competing against ODU’s Alexandra Viktorovich and Alesya Yakubovich, the Monarchs opened with a 2-0 lead, but Cohen and Marsh won the next three games to grab a 3-2 edge. On serve at 3-all, Tech claimed the next three games to capture a 6-3 victory.

On court two, Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura took the first game, winning a hard-fought deuce point, and rolled to a 5-0 lead. ODU’s Marina Alcaide and Shahar Biran got on the scoreboard at 5-1, but Sharabura served out the match for a 6-1 victory, handing the Jackets the 1-0 match lead.

SINGLES
Mahak Jain pushed Tech’s lead out to 2-0, wrapping up first in singles play. On court four, Jain trailed in the early going, 3-0, to Viktorovich, but rebounded winning the next six games to take the first set, 6-3. Jain cruised in the second set, pocketing the match, 6-3, 6-3. ODU got on the scoreboard, taking court two, 6-3, 6-0, for a 2-1 match score.

Lee remained perfect on the day, winning in straight-sets on court three. Facing Alcaide, Lee jumped out to an early lead in the first set and never looked back, pocketing the opener, 6-3. Lee dropped only one game in the second set to take the match, 6-3, 6-1, and give Tech a 3-1 match lead. However, ODU would take the final three matches to clinch a 4-3 come-from-behind-victory.
