ARLINGTON, Texas (Sept. 4) — Behind the stellar performance of sophomore Kyleen Bell (Rocklin, Calif.) who contributed 17 kills and three block assists, the Georgia Tech (2-0) volleyball team defeated Arkansas-Little Rock (1-1) in three games, 15-10, 16-14, 16-14 on Saturday afternoon.
Bell, who left the Junior National Team to compete with Georgia Tech this weekend, was virtually unstoppable as she hit an amazing .571 and recorded only one error. In addition, Maja Pachale (Schwerin, Germany) collected 12 kills and eight digs, while sophomore Anna Nedderman (Euless, Texas) contributed seven block assists.
“What I liked about this match was we had different people step up tonight and play great and it means that we have some depth on our team, which is really going to help us during the course of a long season,” said Collier.
“Last night it was Maja and Amanda Medrow who had great nights, and this afternoon it was Ky and Teryl Townsend who stepped up big,” said Collier. “This means we have a lot of weapons, which wil be important when we reach ACC play.”
The Yellow Jackets will next face host Texas-Arlington (1-2) at 7 p.m. tonight in the finals of the UTA/Jason’s Deli Tournament.
“I think playing Texas-Arlington in front of their home crowd will be an exciting match for us. They will have a good crowd and it will force our team to really play well in an away environment and help us to learn how to win on some else’s court,” said Collier.
