ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech volleyball team got its team back on a winning track as they defeated Coastal Carolina (1-6) in three games in their second match of the Courtyard by Marriott Classic, 15-5, 10-15, 15-5.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Kyleen Bell (Rocklin, Calif.) who had a match-high 11 kills, and Ida Mabry who posted nine kills on 16 attempts. Mabry also tallied four service aces in the match, while Eveland collected 25 assists.
The Chanticleers (1-6) were led by Jeanne Lambert, who notched seven kills, and Katie Knutson who collected 10 digs.
In other tournament action, #10 Minnesota downed #11 Pacific in three games, 15-10, 16-14, 15-9 Saturday afternoon. In that match, Stephanie Hagen and Nicole Branagh each led the Golden Gophers with 14 kills, while Danielle Shinn and Clarissa Bonner each tallied 10 kills for the Tigers.
By posting a perfect 3-0 record in the tournament, the Golden Gophers capture the 2000 Courtyard by Marriott Classic Title. Charnette Fair and Yvonne VanOort each received all tournament honors for Minnesota, while setter Lindsey Berg earned MVP honors for the Golden Gophers.
Coastal Carolina’s Jeanne Lambert earned all-tournament honors for her peformance over the weekend.
Georgia Tech and Pacific will square off in the final match of the tournament Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in O’Keefe Gymnasium.
