BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Georgia Tech volleyball team fell to Virginia Tech, 3-1 (15-25, 15-25, 25-23, 25-27), Saturday night at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va. The Yellow Jackets are now 16-10 overall and 7-8 in ACC action, while the Hokies improve to 14-11 on the season and 7-8 in league play.
Despite the loss, Bailey Hunter led Georgia Tech and all players with 18 kills. She added 10 digs for her ninth double-double of the season.
The Hokies laced together four successive points in game one to take an early 7-4 lead. Virginia Tech kept the pressure on, climbing to a 20-14 lead and closing out the opening frame on five-straight scores, 25-15.
The Yellow Jackets trailed Virginia Tech, 7-3, in the second set. Georgia Tech managed to come within three points, 10-7, but the Hokies pulled away, 16-8, and claimed the game, 25-15.
Georgia Tech came back from the break with new energy, jumping out to a 6-2 lead in the third game. The Yellow Jackets maintained their lead until late in the set when the Hokies tied the score, 20-20. The Jackets fought back and won game three, 25-23, on kills by Hunter and Quinn Evans.
Three kills and a service ace by Hunter put GT up 4-1 to start game four. The Jackets increased their lead, 10-5, on a block by Evans and Kaleigh Colson to force a Virginia Tech timeout. The Hokies managed to tie it up, 23-23, and then again, 25-25. VT scored the next two points to win the game, 27-25, and the match, 3-1.
The Yellow Jackets return to the court on Thursday, Nov. 8 in O’Keefe Gym for a 7 p.m. match against North Carolina.
