Georgia Tech defensive end Eric Henderson was named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week for his to role in the Yellow Jackets’ strong defensive effort in Tech’s 10-9 win over Clemson.
Playing for the first time after missing four games due to an ankle injury, the senior from New Orleans, La., made an immediate impact.
Henderson had two sacks, each time causing a fumble by Tiger quarterback Charlie Whitehurst that the Jackets recovered. Late in the second quarter, Henderson forced a fumble that Tech recovered at the Clemson 34 to set up a game-tying field goal on the final play of the first half. Entering the game, Clemson was the only team in NCAA Division I-A that had not lost a fumble all season.
The Tech defense held the Tigers without a touchdown for the first time since the opening game of the 2003 season.
Henderson finished with six tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and two forced fumbles.
With three tackles for loss against the Tigers, he now has 55 for his career, just two behind Greg Gathers’ Tech record of 57. Henderson’s two sacks raised his career total to 22, good for fifth place in Tech history.
