Hall, Mitchell, Burkhardt, and Prystaj Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

KaMichael Hall, Janie Mitchell, Tony Burkhardt, and Laurissa Prystaj were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, November 21, 2005.

Hall, a junior from Houston, Texas, helped the Yellow Jackets hold Miami to 30 yards rushing and 237 yards of total offense as Georgia Tech knocked off the third-ranked Hurricanes, 14-10, at the Orange Bowl. Hall had four tackles for loss in the second half, including two sacks, as well as a pass breakup and a key fourth down stop to lead the Tech defense. His four tackles for loss covered 16 yards. With Tech holding a 14-10 lead in the fourth quarter, Miami took over at the Jackets’ 47-yard line after a fumbled punt and drove deep into Tech territory. On fourth-and-one at the 12-yard line, Hall tackled Miami tailback Charlie Jones for a three-yard loss. Hall and the Tech defense limited the Hurricanes to just one third-down conversion on 14 attempts and 0-for-2 on fourth down.

Mitchell, a sophomore from Jackson, Miss., averaged 13 points, eight rebounds, a block and a steal while shooting 57 percent from the field and 67 percent from the free-throw line to help Georgia Tech to two season-opening wins over University of Alabama-Birmingham and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Burkhardt, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz., led the Yellow Jackets to a second-place finish at the Georgia Tech Invitational last weekend in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. He broke the school records on the one- and three-meter sprinbgoards with NCAA Zone qualifying marks. On the one-meter board, Burkhardt posted a score of 374.50 to finish in second place. He then finished first on the three-meter board with an ACC best score of 387.95.

Prystaj, a senior from Fairport, N.Y., led the Yellow Jackets to a second-place finish at the Georgia Tech Invitational last weekend in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. She tallied a pair of second-place finishes on the one- and three-meter springboards with NCAA Zone qualifying and school record marks. On Friday night, Prystaj posted a Tech record score of 305.95 on the one-meter and set a new school mark on the three-meter board Saturday night with a tally of 351.60.
