CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Georgia Tech volleyball team (17-11, 8-8 ACC) fell in three sets at Virginia (17-10, 9-7) on Saturday night in Memorial Gym.
How it Happened
The first set was tightly contested with 15 tied scores and five lead changes. Down, 23-21, Georgia Tech tied it at 23 with kills from Sydney Wilson and Lauren Pitz. The Cavaliers were able to score the final two points to escape with the win, 25-23.
The Cavaliers were quick out of the gate in the second game, taking an 8-3 lead. Virginia never looked back and captured the second set, 25-18.
Virginia kept the momentum throughout the third set, but poised with match point, 24-18, the Yellow Jackets held on and scored four-straight points to pull within two, 24-22. The Cavaliers scored the final point they needed to win the set, 25-22, and the match.

“It was a tough week with two losses,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “We struggled with our passing these last two games and were not able to diversify our offense, making it easier for teams to key in on stopping our outsides, which they have executed well. We will work hard in the gym to make sure we are prepared for our next opponent in Notre Dame.”

– Sydney Wilson, Annika Van Gunst and Teegan Van Gunst each had nine kills, with Wilson hitting at a team-best .375 clip (min. five kills).
– London Ackermann held down the back row with 13 digs, while Rebecca Martin added nine and Annika Van Gunst and Teegan Van Gunst each had eight digs.
– Rebecca Martin and Gabby Benda split the setting duties with 19 and 11 assists, respectively.
What’s Next
The Yellow Jackets play a pair of road matches next weekend. Georgia Tech takes on Notre Dame on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. in South Bend, Ind., and then travels to Louisville for a 2 p.m. matchup on ESPN3 on Sunday, Nov. 22.
