THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech swimming & diving team will be competing in their Senior Day meet on Saturday, as the Jackets will host Emory at 11 a.m. ET inside the McAuley Aquatic Center.
Thirteen seniors will be competing in the final home meet of their careers. Seniors include NCAA participants Youssef Hammoud, Ricky Lehner, Shannon Lumbra and Mats Westergren.
Saturday’s senior day meet will feature a 13-event line-up that will include the 400 medley relay, 1000 free, 400 IM, 400 free relay and 200s in the breaststroke and backstroke.
“We’re looking forward to finishing off our dual meet season with Emory,” head coach Courtney Shealy Hart said. “They’re Division III national champions, and they have a great team. I’m very excited for our seniors as they complete their careers here at Tech. It’s a sad day for us, because they’ve been game-changers for us not only in terms of our performance, but the culture of our program. We can’t wait to see them go out on top.”
The Jackets are coming off of a loss to a powerhouse program in Alabama, but there were plenty of bright spots. Butterfly specialist Ben Southern was able to get a victory in the 200 fly with a time of 1:47.62. Freestyle swimmer Iris Wang was also impressive, finishing second in both the 50 and 100 free races.
Throughout the week, Tech’s 13 seniors were featured on the @GTSwimDive Twitter account with the hashtag, #SrJackets:
