BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
– The Georgia Tech women’s track & field squad completed their first meet of the season on Friday at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker, receiving noteworthy performances from freshman Bria Matthews and junior Kenya Collins. The women finished 3rd with 49.5 points despite not competing in the distance events.

Matthews, a native of Morrow, Ga., won both the long jump and triple jump in her first career collegiate meet. Collins was able finish 3rd in the 60-meter hurdles.

“The women put up some really good performances for a very early season competition,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “For Kenya to run a personal best in December is exciting and is a great barometer for things to come once we get into the spring semester. And for Bria to come out of her first collegiate competition with wins in both of the horizontal jumps is just outstanding. We can build on of these performances once we get into the swing of the regular season meets after the holidays.”
