Griffin Takes First as Yellow Jacket Women's Cross Country Wins Georgia Intercollegiate; Tech Men Claim Second

ATLANTA – Senior Katie Griffin brought home the win, and four Jackets placed among the race’s first seven overall finishers, as the Georgia Tech women’s cross country team claimed its seventh-consecutive Division I victory at Saturday’s Georgia Intercollegiate Championships. Tech’s men’s team finished second in the meet, which was held at Georgia State’s Panthersville Course.

Griffin easily won the race, posting a time of 17:51.94 and defeating her nearest competitor by nearly 35 seconds. Freshman Carly Matthews placed third overall (18:30.06), while senior Eboni Crosby (18:51.83) and junior Neta Ezer (18:58.67) finished, sixth and seventh, respectively. The Jackets had four of the first five Division I finishers.

Freshman Carla Uribe closed out the scoring for the Jackets, finishing eighth among Division I runners (19th overall).

The women tallied 21 points, outdistancing Georgia State for the victory. Tech has now won the Division I women’s competition at this meet each year since 1996.

On the men’s side, freshman Rob Kuhn was Tech’s top finisher for the third time this season. He ran 27:02.71 and was the top Division I finisher in the meet (eighth overall).

Senior Joe Poliseo was sixth among Division I runners in 27:50.38. Sophomore Adam Jones (ninth), freshman Brian O’Neill (11th) and senior Jimmy DeYonker (12th) also figured in the scoring for Tech.

The men scored 39 points to finish second behind Georgia State. Entering Saturday’s action Tech had captured 17 of the last 20 Georgia Intercollegiates. The Jackets had won the last 11 times they had entered this meet.

Tech returns to action Saturday, October19, at the Auburn Invite in Auburn, Ala.
