ATLANTA – Cross country athletes swept the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week Award for Monday, October 20, 2003, as senior Katie Griffin and freshman Cristan Duvall both earned the award for the first time this year.
Griffin, a senior from Stone Mountain, Ga., led Tech to a first-place finish at the Clemson Invitational by placing third in the meet with a five-kilometer time of 17:56. She was the second Division I finisher in the race and the top runner from the Atlantic Coast Conference. She has been the top Tech runner in both races that she has participated in this season.
Duvall, a freshman from Duluth, Ga., helped the Yellow Jackets to a fourth-place finish at Clemson by finishing 13th in the race with a personal-best time of 25:38 in the eight-kilometer race. He was the 10th Division I finisher and the top Tech runner on the men’s side and has finished either second or third for the Jackets in the other three meets that he’s raced in 2003.
