Tulsa, Okla. – Georgia Tech’s Guillermo Gomez won two matches in straight sets Saturday and advanced to the finals of the consolation bracket in the D’Novo All-American Championship tennis tournament at the University of Tulsa.
The sophomore from Alicante, Spain whipped Balasz Novak of Ohio State, 6-2, 6-1, Saturday morning, then came back in the afternoon to eliminate Lucas Jovita of South Florida, 6-3, 6-1. He will face Raony Carvalho of Texas Tech, whop defeated Houston Barrick of Virginia in straight sets, in the consolation final Sunday at 11 a.m.
“He played very well today. He made it look at lot easier than it really was against two quality opponents,” said head coach Kenny Thorne. “It was a good day today, and he has a tough one tomorrow.”
