THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimming and diving competed its first meet of the season Friday. The White vs. Gold Intrasquad Meet was held at McAuley Aquatic Center and saw the gold team win by a narrow margin of two points. The gold team started the day with a lead of seven points which proved to be enough to win 337.5 to 335.5.
In the 200 medley relay, the white team came out with the win on the women’s side (1:45.03) and the gold team came out with the win on the men’s side (1:29.34). Cami Hidalgo took the top spot in the women’s 1m event (124.50) and Allen Mann finished first in the men’s 1m event (159.00). Defne Tacyildiz secured first place in the women’s 400 IM (4:22.31) and Batur Ünlü placed first in the men’s 400 IM (4:02.81).
The women’s 200 free was won by Sophie Murphy (1:03.31) and Ünlü touched first in the men’s 200 free (1:39.97). In the women’s 100 fly Zora Ripkova finished first (55.78) and Christian Ferraro touched first in the men’s 100 fly (48.15). Claudia Butterfield secured first in the women’s 200 breast (2:17.77) and Caio Pumputis finished first in the men’s 200 breast (1:56.62).
Jami Williams turned in the top time in the women’s 100 back (57.58) and Berke Saka placed first in the men’s 100 back (23.88). Ripkova touched first in the women’s 50 free (23.88) and Ferraro secured first in the men’s 50 free (20.92). Duda Seifer took home first in the women’s 1000 free (10:23.00) and Mert Kilavuz placed first in the men’s 1000 free (9:34.68).
The divers then jumped in the pool for the mixed 200 medley relay. The gold team won the event with a time of 2:14.33. The last two events of the evening were the 400 free relay. The white team took the top spot on the women’s side (3:28.48) and the gold team took the top spot on the men’s side (3:00.25).
The next meet is in Savannah, Ga. against the SCAD Bees on Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. The Yellow Jackets return home on Oct. 23 to face Florida State in the McAuley Aquatic Center at 11 a.m.
