THE FLATS – Georgia Tech has made its first appearance in the College Football Playoff Top 25 as the Yellow Jackets were ranked 24th by the committee, which released its second poll of the season Tuesday night on ESPN.
Tech (7-2, 4-2) looks to remain in the hunt for an ACC Coastal Division title and extend a two-game winning streak Saturday at NC State at 12:30 p.m. on the ACC Network.
The College Football Playoff Top 25 replaces the former BCS rankings. The 12-member committee will ultimately pick the four teams to play in the national semifinals and set the matchups for the other four premier New Year’s Day bowls that are part of the playoff rotation.
The Yellow Jackets were last ranked in the BCS during the 2011 season, debuting at No. 22 on October 16; climbing to 21st on November 6 and last being ranked 23rd on November 20.
Tech is one of four teams from the ACC in this week’s College Football Playoff Top 25, joining No. 2 Florida State, No. 21 Clemson and No. 22 Duke.
