THE FLATS – After their second open date of the season, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are now No. 16 in the latest College Football Playoff Top 25 released by the committee Tuesday night on ESPN. Tech is one of four ACC teams ranked by the CFP, joining No. 3 Florida State, No. 21 Clemson, and No. 22 Louisville.
Georgia Tech (9-2) has moved up in each of the last four College Football Playoff polls. While Tech completed its second open date of the season last week, the Jackets clinched their fourth ACC Coastal Division title. Georgia Tech will play No. 3 Florida State in the 2014 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game on Dec. 6 in Charlotte.
Georgia Tech concludes its regular-season schedule Nov. 29 when the Jackets travel to Athens, Ga., to face No. 9 Georgia. Kickoff is set for noon ET on the SEC Network and 680 The Fan. When the Jackets and Bulldogs take the field, it’ll be the 109th meeting of “Clean, Old Fashioned Hate” – the nation’s 19th-most frequently played series among FBS schools.
Saturday will be the 16th time in the last 18 series meetings that at least one team is ranked when Georgia and Georgia Tech meet, and the 10th time that the Yellow Jackets are ranked in that stretch.
Next week, the Jackets will face defending national champion Florida State in the 2014 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game in Charlotte. Kickoff is set for either 7:45 p.m. or 8 p.m. ET on Dec. 6.
