Georgia Tech's Stowe Invited to USA Swimming Select Camp

May 25, 2006

ATLANTA – Sophomore Elizabeth Stowe has been selected to attend the National Open Water Select Camp being held May 31-June 3, in Fort Myers, Fla., hosted by USA Swimming. Stowe is one of nine female athletes selected to make the trip.

“To be considered as one of the nine fastest women in the United States is a tremendous honor,” said Tech coach Stuart Wilson about Stowe. “The 10K open water event has just been added for the 2008 Olympics.”

Joining Stowe at the camp out of the Atlantic Coast Conference is Virginia’s John Millen (2004-05).

USA Swimming was informed on Oct. 27 that the 10K Open Water event has been added for the 2008 Olympics, and in an effort to prepare the best team, they have invited the country’s top nine male and female athletes in the open water event.

Stowe has been competing in open water events as part of her summer training. She holds Tech school records in the 1,000- and 1650-yard freestyle events.
