GREENSBORO, N.C. – Noelle Hickey has been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after compiling a 5-0 record in conference matches last week and helping No. 2 Georgia Tech secure wins over No. 18 Florida State (4-3), No. 40 Virginia (7-0) and No. 51 Virginia Tech (6-1).
Hickey, who receives her first league recognition this season, went 2-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles action. She clinched the match point with a comeback, three-set triumph (4-6, 6-1, 6-2) against Florida State’s Ania Rynarzewska for the overall victory last Wednesday and tied the match for the Yellow Jackets with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Virginia Tech’s J.J. Larson on Sunday.
In doubles, the native from Hackensack, N.J., collected a trio of wins with teammate Whitney Cray at the No. 2 position. The duo gave the Jackets a head start in last Wednesday’s road match with an 8-6 win over FSU’s Carolin Walter and Tapiwa Marobela and clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Virginia’s Lindsey Pereira and Lara Alexander on Saturday. Hickey and Cray wrapped up the weekend with an 8-4 win versus Jessica Long and Yasmin Hamza of Virginia Tech.
Georgia Tech wraps up its four-match home stand and regular season this weekend, hosting Boston College on Saturday and then Maryland on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets will also gear up for the 2008 ACC Tennis Championships, which takes places Thur.-Sun., Apr. 17-20 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
