The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team defeated Auburn, 5-2, Friday afternoon in Auburn, Ala. The Yellow Jackets won five of six singles, improving to 2-1 on the year.
Sophomore Mysti Morris defeated Carolina Maurer, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Senior Bobbi Guthrie topped Carolina Ramirez, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3. In the fourth singles position, junior Lea Miller defeated Katia Illarionova, 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Jaime Wong upended Liz Sauerborn, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5. At No. 6, sophomore Mason Miller defeated Martina Janska, 6-0, 6-0. The only Yellow Jacket player to suffer a setback in singles play was sophomore Debbie Reynolds, who fell to Andrea Piski, 2-6, 2-6, at No. 1 singles.
Auburn claimed the doubles point by taking two of the three matches. The Georgia Tech tandem of Mason Miller and junior Laura Ozolins knocked off Maurer and Janska, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles to prevent the doubles sweep.
Georgia Tech returns to Atlanta to host Middle Tennessee State at Noon on Sunday.
