Georgia Tech Women's Basketball Player Suspended

Oct. 10, 2001

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech junior guard Niesha Butler has been suspended from the Yellow Jacket women’s basketball for the remainder of the fall academic semester, Tech head coach Agnus Berenato announced on Wednesday.

The suspension stems from Butler’s failure to comply with team academic regulations.

“As a coach and educator, it is my responsibility to make sure that our student-athletes are held accountable both on and off the court,” said Berenato. “I’m disappointed to have to suspend Niesha, but I am confident that she will rectify the situation and will return to our team at the end of the fall semester as a strong student-athlete.”

Butler, a native of New York, N.Y., averaged 15.6 points and 3.4 rebounds, while starting 23 games during the 2000-01 season for the Yellow Jackets.
