IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (22-9), who won its second game all-time in the NCAA Tournament, will face No.1-seeded Oklahoma (29-4) in a second-round match-up Tuesday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
The Yellow Jackets earned a 76-62 win over host and eighth-seeded Iowa Sunday evening in front of 5,615 fans. Freshman Sasha Goodlett registered her first career double-double on her biggest stage yet. Senior Jacqua Williams tied her career-high with 23 points in the win.
Oklahoma opened its tournament with an easy 76-47 win over 16th-seeded Prairie View A&M in the first round. The Sooners are led by All-American Courtney Paris, who is averaging 16.2 points and 13.8 rebounds.
The Jackets, who are playing a Big 12 opponent in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year, are 2-4 all-time against teams from the conference. Tech will now have played all four No. 1 seeds from the 2009 NCAA Tournament field.
TECH VS. OKLAHOMA
This will mark the first meeting between Georgia Tech and Oklahoma. Tech is 1-1 all-time against teams from Oklahoma (both games came against Tulsa).
Tech is 2-4 against Big 12 opponents and 0-1 this season. Tech dropped a 58-55 decision to Iowa State in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph is 0-2 all-time against Big 12 opponents.
Oklahoma is the fourth No. 1 seed from the 2009 NCAA Tournament field that the Yellow Jackets will face this season.
