Georgia Tech Volleyball Travels to Virginia for Pair of ACC Matches

Oct. 19, 2006

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech volleyball team, winners of two of their last three matches, hits the road for a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference matches in Virginia this weekend, facing Virginia Tech (11-8, 5-5 ACC) Friday at 7 p.m. and the University of Virginia (13-6, 6-4 ACC) Saturday at 5 p.m. Fans can follow livestats for both matches at www.ramblinwreck.com.

The Cavaliers and Hokies are the only ACC schools the Yellow Jackets (10-9, 2-7 ACC) have yet to face this season, and the two teams will make a return trip to Atlanta during the last weekend of the regular season (Nov. 24-25).

The Yellow Jackets will be looking for their first road victory of the season, facing a pair of teams that Tech has had success against. The Jackets hold a slight 3-2 edge over the Hokies, including a 2-1 mark under head coach Bond Shymansky, and split the two matches against Virginia Tech in 2005. Georgia Tech is 24-14 against Virginia, and is currently riding an 11-match winning streak against the Cavaliers, nine of which have come since 2002, when Shymansky took over the reigns of the program.

Sophomore Talisa Kellogg has led the Georgia Tech offense in 2006, averaging 3.59 kills per game while hitting .285 on the season. The outside hitter has been on fire of late, hitting an astonishing .355 while averaging 4.11 kills per game through the last three contests.

Junior outside hitter Lindsey Gray (2.51 kpg) has come on strong of late as well, as the Lenexa, Kansas native is also averaging 4.11 kills per game through her last three matches.

Following the matches in Virginia this weekend, the Yellow Jackets will return to Atlanta for a pair of matches at O’Keefe Gymnasium next weekend, including a Friday match against Duke in which the Yellow Jackets will be participating in “Dig for the Cure,” an event which is raising awareness and funds to help fight the cause of breast cancer.
