The Georgia Tech volleyball program recently had incoming signee Erin Birmingham named to Volleyball Magazine’s Fab 50 list. The Fab 50 is a list of the top 50 women’s volleyball high school seniors who will be freshmen in 2006.
Birmingham, who hails from Riverside, Mo., is a 6-0 middle blocker who has been listed by prepvolleyball.com as the No. 79 prospect on the Senior Aces list. The Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Missouri, Birmingham is a member of the MAV 18-1 Club Volleyball team who earned all-tournament honors in the American Division of the 2005 Junior Nationals.
In the four years that Bond Shymansky has been head coach of the Yellow Jackets, he has signed at least one Fab 50 recruit in each of his classes. Jennifer Randall (Long Beach, Calif.) received the honor in 2002, in 2003 Abby Showers (Vandalia, Ohio) was named to the list while in 2004 Nikki Kaminskas (Flagstaff, Ariz.) earned the distinction. In 2005, Laura DeMichaelis (Aurora, CO), Talisa Kellogg (Westerville, OH), Allie Niekamp (Findlay, OH) and Callie Miller (Whitehouse, OH) all appeared on the list.
The Yellow Jackets join Duke as the only other ACC program to have a recruit earn Fab 50 honors in this years class.
