Allie Niekamp (Findlay, Ohio), a 6-0 setter, signed a national letter of intent to attend Georgia Tech, head volleyball coach Bond Shymansky announced Monday.
A member of the USA Volleyball Junior National A-2 in 2003 and 2004, Niekamp has been listed by prepvolleyball.com as the No. 46 prospect on the Senior Aces List, as well as the No. 6 setter in her class.
“Allie is a great setter with sharp hands and soft touch,” said head coach Bond Shymansky. “As athletically gifted as Allie is, she also has a dynamic personality and has fantastic leadership capabilities. She communicates very well on and off the court and has a deep desire to learn and improve.”
Niekamp, the Greater Buckeye Conference 2004 Player of the Year, helped lead Findlay High School to the district championship in 2004 and a number two ranking in the Ohio High School State poll. A National Honor Society Member who also plays basketball, Niekamp plays for the Toledo Volleyball Club which has qualified for the Junior Olympic Open Division National Tournament the last two years.
“Allie has played at a high level in high school and club ball and brings in with her experience in the Junior National program which is invaluable,” said Shymansky. “We expect Allie to compete for playing time right away and know that her aggressive style and outstanding work ethic will be keys to her advancement.”
