THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech volleyball team will host the Slovenian Junior National Team in an exhibition match at O’Keefe Gym on Wednesday. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and admission is free for fans. Live stats will be available and the contest can be heard live on WREK 91.1 FM with veteran Kurt Hoyt and former Yellow Jacket Brittany Roderick on the call.
The Slovenian Junior National Team began their quick route throughout the Southeast, having competed at the College of Charleston Tournament two weekends ago and facing the Florida Gators on Labor Day. Slovenia went 1-2 in Charleston and was swept by Florida.
The Georgia Tech volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season, 3-1 (27-29, 25-27, 25-22, 23-25), against Indiana on Saturday night at University Gym in Bloomington, Ind. The Yellow Jackets fell to 5-1 on the season.
Monique Mead led the Tech offense with 20 kills. Bailey Hunter tallied her third double-double of the season with 19 kills and 10 digs, while Annie Czarnecki added 14 kills and Nicki Meyer put up a team-best 11 digs.
Hunter and Mead were named to the Indiana All-Tournament team. Hunter averaged 4.09 kills per set (45k, 14e, 100ta) and Mead averaged 4.00 kills per set (44k, 13e, 85ta) throughout the tourney.
The exhibition takes place in the midst of six matches in seven days for the Yellow Jackets. Following the mid-week scrimmage Tech will head south to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in three matches at the Florida Active Ankle Challenge, Sept. 7-8.
