ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Senior outside hitter Jennifer Percy totaled 13 kills to lead the Georgia Tech volleyball team (3-2) past UC Riverside (0-5) in four sets, 3-1 (25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20), Friday night at the Sheraton Airport Lobo Classic. Georgia Tech wraps up the tournament Saturday at 4 p.m. ET against host New Mexico.

Percy slammed home 13 kills on 34 attempts with just four errors for a .265 hitting percentage. London Ackermann and Wimberly Wilson held down the back row with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

The match featured 20 tied scores and 10 lead changes as Tech took home the first two sets and put together a comeback to capture the fourth.

The opening frame saw the two teams go toe-to-toe. UC Riverside had a slight edge, 10-8, when the Jackets put together five points behind the serving of Wilson, followed by another stellar run of six points courtesy in part to the serving of Ackermann and five Highlander attacking errors. Tech continued its rhythm through the end of the set, winning 25-17.

The Jackets jumped out to a 9-4 lead thanks to kills by Chanell Clark-Bibbs, Quinn Evans and Ivona Kolak. The Highlanders chipped away and managed to pull within two, 18-16. That’s when Tech went to work and strung four points together, widening the gap to 22-16 and eventually winning 25-20.

The Highlanders regrouped after set two and came out swinging. UC Riverside’s Cristina Maietta had three consecutive kills to put her team ahead 12-7. The Highlanders rode that momentum throughout the set, winning 25-20.

Georgia Tech spent the beginning of the fourth set trailing UC Riverside. The Jackets were down 13-7 when the momentum shifted to their side of the court. A Kaleigh Colson service ace sparked a nine-point run that put Tech in the lead by three, 16-13. From then on, Georgia Tech did not relinquish the lead and captured the match with a 25-20 victory.
