THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s basketball teams will host the inaugural Jacket Jam on Sunday, Oct. 21, at the brand new McCamish Pavilion.
The free event will be the first chance for fans to see the arena in action as Brian Gregory and MaChelle Joseph prepare their teams for the 2012-13 season. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will get a free Jacket Jam t-shirt, and the first 500 Georgia Tech students who show their BuzzCard will get free pizza.
Doors will open at 3 p.m. following Georgia Tech’s volleyball home match against Miami at 1 p.m. in O’Keefe Gymnasium.
A DJ, video and sound show will welcome fans to McCamish Pavilion at 3:30 before both teams are introduced. The DJ will also interview players and coaches from both the men’s and women’s teams throughout the day. Another Jacket Jam host will rove around McCamish Pavilion, chatting with students, fans and showing off different areas of the new facility.
There will also be interactive promotions involving fans with the teams, a step performance by Alpha Phi Alpha, intrasquad contests involving both Yellow Jacket teams and an appearance from the Gold Rush dance team. An autograph session with both teams will conclude the day.
The Georgia Tech men will open their season and McCamish Pavilion against Tulane at 7 p.m. on Nov. 9, while the women’s team will open its season at 2 p.m. Nov. 11 against Tennessee.
