ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will begin its quest for a fifth ACC Tournament title at noon Thursday when the seventh seeded Yellow Jackets (12-9, 5-6 ACC) face the 10th seeded Maryland Terrapins (13-8, 3-8 ACC) at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
The two sides faced off on April 1 in Atlanta with the then 28th ranked Terps defeating the then No. 11 Yellow Jackets 4-3. The winner of Thursday’s match will face second seeded and No. 4 ranked North Carolina at noon on Friday.
Last season the Yellow Jackets also began the tournament as the seventh seed after splitting the final regular season weekend with Virginia and Virginia Tech before making a run to the title. The Jackets defeated the Hokies 4-1 in the first round and avenged an earlier loss to Miami by beating the No. 2 seed Hurricanes, 4-3. In the ACC Semifinals, the Jackets topped the third seeded Clemson Lady Tigers 4-2 to advance to the title match. The Yellow Jackets won their fourth conference crown by beating the top seed and No. 1 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels, 4-3, in the championship match.
