THE FLATS – In its second sweep in as many days, the Georgia Tech volleyball team defeated UT-Martin, 3-0, Saturday afternoon on the second day of the GT Courtyard by Marriott Atlanta Midtown Invite.

How It Happened
After trailing in the beginning of set one, a kill and block on back-to-back points from Teegan Van Gunst put Tech ahead 17-16 and the Jackets held on to win it 25-23 on an ace by Gabriela Stavnetchei.

Tech jumped out to a 7-1 lead in game two with three of those points off the arm of Annika Van Gunst. The Yellow Jackets ran away with the set, winning 25-8. Georgia Tech carried that momentum into the third set and put the match away with a 25-13 win in game three.

Quote
“I think we started off a little sluggish, but I was proud of how we rebounded and refocused,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “We were able to play on a level that we needed. Our middle blockers played well. They are always going to be a big part of our success, so we need them to be confident and go hard in their approaches, really be confident in what they can do.

“It was great to see Sydney [Wilson] have a great match. That’s the type of player we know she can be for us. I was proud of their effort; we refocused and were able to hold a good level of volleyball for the other two sets.”
