Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report

Nov. 30, 2017

THE FLATS Derrick Favors reaches double digits in five of last six outings … Jarrett Jack dishes seven and 14 assists … Thaddeus Young earns nickname “old reliable” through consistent play … Iman Shumpert battles nagging knee injury … Marcus Georges-Hunt sees brief minutes in route of Miami … All of that and more can be found in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report.

Derrick Favors has led the Utah Jazz to a 4-1 record over its last five games, scoring more than 16 points in each of the victories – including five double-digit efforts in his last six. Most recently, Favors put up a statline of 24 points, nine rebounds, five assists three blocks and a steal in the 106-77 win over Denver. Becoming more of the Jazz’ offensive focus with Rudy Gobert sidelined with injury the past nine games, Favors has upped his offensive production as well as quietly become one of the NBA’s elite rim protectors. “[Favor is] different than Rudy, but he was so effective today protecting the rim because he was just playing vertically, and that’s something we’ve got some carryover on and hopefully some of the other guys will see the success that he’s had with that,” said Jazz coach Quin Snyder.

Marcus Georges-Hunt saw a brief appearance in the Timberwolves 120-102 victory over the New Orleans. Going 3-2 over the last five games, Minnesota improved to a 13-9 overall record, currently ranking fifth in the Western Conference.

Snapping a three-game skid, Jarrett Jack recorded seven assists in the 115-86 win over Miami on Wednesday. The assist total comes just three games after Jack tied his career-high of 14 assists against Atlanta. Continuing to revel in the starting point-guard spot, he continues to be thankful for another chance in the NBA. His reemergence in the league comes after he battled back from a torn ACL and a partially torn meniscus.

Iman Shumpert continues to battle a nagging knee injury that has taken him out of four of the last five games and he is questionable for Thursday’s game against Atlanta. His most amount of action in the Cavaliers’ last five games was against Philadelphia on Nov. 27 when he played a seven-minute stretch.

Thaddeus Young continues to be a consistent contributor the Pacers as they’ve gone 3-2 in their last five. Young put up 23 points and four rebounds in Wednesday night’s loss to Houston, shooting 11-of-15 for the game. Scoring 10-20 points in 16 of 21 games thus far, Young as earned the nickname “Old reliable.” Indiana wraps up a two-game road trip and welcome a six-game homestand through the first half of December.
