THE FLATS – Josh Okogie will represent Team World in the Rising Stars game … Thaddeus Young scored 13 points and brought down seven rebounds against the Washington Wizards … Derrick Favors reaches another milestone… That and more in this edition of the Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report.
Okogie scored five points to go along with two rebounds in 20 minutes of action in the Minnesota Timberwolves 99-97 overtime win against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night. The Timberwolves currently sit in 11th after going 5-5 in their last 10 games. Being named to the Rising Stars game, and hailing from Lagos, Nigeria, Okogie will represent Team World, and will play alongside stars such as Ben Simmons and Luka Dončić.
Expect to see Thaddeus Young play increased minutes for the Indiana Pacers, as head coach Nate McMillan looks to adjust for the loss of All-Star Victor Oladipo. The Pacers face the Orlando Magic on Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Pacers currently sit in fourth place after losing three straight games.
Derrick Favors had 12 points and five rebounds in a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers and leaves them with a 29-23 record, good for seventh place in the competitive Western Conference. Favors and the Jazz square off next against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night. Favors has been a consistent force for the Jazz averaging 11 points per game to along with 7.2 rebounds each night. He also has brought down the third most rebounds in franchise history, passing John Stockton with 4,052.
Iman Shumpert followed up a 16-point performance on Sunday against the Los Angeles Clippers with a seven-point game against the Atlanta Hawks, helping the Sacramento Kings win 135-113. Shumpert has worked his way back into the rotation after missing a game last week versus the Toronto Raptors. He and the Kings face the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night.
CBSSports.com reported before Christmas that Marcus Georges-Hunt underwent knee surgery and would miss extended playing time for the Maine Red Claws in the G League, though there has been very little reported about it. Georges-Hunt had averaged 13.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 steals over 36 minutes per game in nine games for the Red Claws.
