Georgia Tech Men's Tennis Wins Eight Matches at Final Day of Puerto Rico Invitational

No. 25 Jose Muguruza upset No. 2 Ryler DeHeart of Illinois by the scores of 6-2, 6-1 to lead the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team in their final day of action at the Puerto Rico Invitational. The Yellow Jackets took a total of eight of 13 matches on the day and finished the tournament with 24 wins.

In singles matches, the Yellow Jackets picked up wins from Scott Blackmon, who defeated Andrew Ulrich of Illinois, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 and David North who beat Monte Tucker of Illinois in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Also winning in singles was Sukhwa Young, who won over John Pettit of California, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4, Jordan Delass, who beat Cal’s Jirou Nakajima, 6-1, 5-7,6-3. The last two singles wins came from Noah Tyler who defeated Vaclav Burger of California, 7-5, 6-4 and George Gvelesiani who won over Brandon Davis of Illinois, 7-6 (5), 6-2.

Tech’s lone doubles victory came from the duo of Tyler and Gvelesiani who defeated Cal’s team of Pettit and Nakajima, 8-3.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action Jan. 17th when they take place in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Tournament.
