With a 6-2 record in its hand, the No. 48 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team begins the Atlantic Coast Conference portion of their schedule with a meeting against No. 26 Clemson (14-2) Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Clemson, SC.
The Jackets trail in the series between the two schools, 13-24, including a tough 4-3 loss last season to the Tigers in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. Tech’s last victory came earlier during the 2004 season and was a 4-3 victory for the Jackets in Atlanta.
“Obviously our team is very excited to begin ACC play and to face Clemson,.” said Thorne. “This is a match that both teams look forward to each season and last year both matches were very close and could have gone either way and I expect this year’s match to be every bit as competitive.”
To date, the Jackets have been led by David North and Jose Muguruza, who have a team-best six wins on the season in singles matches in dual match play. In addition, Muguruza is ranked No. 20 in singles action in the latest ITA rankings. On the doubles side, the tandem of North and Marko Rajevac own a 7-1 record at No. 1 doubles while Scott Blackmon and Muguruza are 5-1 at No. 2 doubles.
