Scott Schnugg won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead 33rd-ranked Georgia Tech (9-3, 2-1 ACC) to a 7-0 win over Maryland (8-4, 0-1) on Sunday afternoon at the Tennis Center in College Park.
The Jackets jumped out early with wins at all three doubles positions. Schnugg teamed with Jason Pieters to defeat Chris Chiu and Scott Peters by a score of 8-3 at the top position. West Nott and Trevor McLeod played at the No. 2 position to win 8-2, while Joao Menano and Marko Rajevac teamed at the No. 3 position to win by the same 8-2 score.
Schnugg then met Chiu again in singles winning by a 6-0, 6-4 count. Menano played in the No. 2 position, winning against Troy Demers by matching 6-1 scores, and Nott then clinched the match by blanking Pierre Rudder in the No. 3 slot, 6-0, 6-0.
Rajevac dropped the first set against David Reichsfeld by a 6-1 count before rebounding with a tiebreaker win in the second. The two then played a tiebreaker for the third set, with Rajevac winning, 10-3.
McLeod and Pieters were the other winners on the afternoon as they played in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. McLeod defeated Peters, 6-3, 6-0, and Pieters won his match against Rory Theis by a 6-0, 6-3 count.
The Yellow Jackets will have a week off before beginning a four-match homestand beginning on March 21st against Indiana at 2:00 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
