GEORGIA TECH FOOTBALL
Post-Practice Report – August 15, 2007
Practice #15
Rose Bowl Field
4:20-6:30 p.m.
Format: Shells (helmet, shoulder pads, shorts)
Weather: Partly cloudy; extremely hot
Two-a-days are over at Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets held their last two-a-day session of the year.
With restrictions in place by the NCAA, the term “two-a-day” is really a misnomer. Since practice began Aug. 3, Georgia Tech has practiced twice in one day just four times.
So, is there a big difference between two-a-days now and two-a-days back then? “It’s off the chart how few we have now,” head coach Chan Gailey said.
Notebook:
— Fans planning to attend Saturday’s scrimmage (11 a.m.) at Bobby Dodd Stadium/Grant Field should enter and exit through Gate 9.
— Fans planning to attend the Great Jacket Encounter I Saturday at 3 p.m. should enter and exit through Gate 5.
— A dozen players sat out most of Wednesday afternoon’s practice with various injuries.
Fact of the Day:
How consistent has the Georgia Tech defense been? Consider than in each of the last three seasons, the Yellow Jackets have finished in the top 30 nationally (out of nearly 120 teams) in four different defensive statistical categories – rushing defense, scoring defense, total defense and pass efficiency defense.
By The Numbers:
Jay Shoop, Georgia Tech’s Director of Sports Medicine, estimates the supplies his staff goes through for every Yellow Jacket football practice during the month of August:
60 – gallons of Powerade
200 – gallons of water
1,500 – pounds of ice
2,700 – feet of tape for wrapping ankles
Next practice:
Thursday, 10:15-12:15
Remaining open practice schedule:
August 17, 10-12:15
August 18, 11-1 (stadium)
August 20, 7:30-9:30 p.m. (stadium)
