CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 1 ranked North Carolina at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C., Friday afternoon.
The loss drops the Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 27, to 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the ACC while the Tar Heels improve to 18-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
The Tar Heels took the early lead by winning the doubles point. Gina Saurez-Malaguti and Tessa Lyons downed Tech’s Jasmine Minor and Natasha Prokhnevska 8-1 on court three. UNC clinched the point when Zoe De Bruycker and Ashley Dai downed Elizabeth Kilborn and Muriel Wacker 8-5 on court two.
North Carolina extended its lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win by 33rd-ranked Caroline Price over Megan Kurey on court four and a 6-1, 6-2 win by ninth-ranked Saurez-Malaguti over 89th-ranked Elizabeth Kilborn on court one.
The Tar Heels clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win by 25th-ranked Whitney Kay over Tech’s Natasha Prokhnevska on court three.
The Yellow Jackets will take on the No. 6 ranked Duke Blue Devils at 12 p.m. tomorrow in Durham, N.C.
