Georgia Tech Cross Country Heads to South Regional Championships

Nov. 12, 2004

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech cross country team heads to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the NCAA South Regional Championships. Senior Kyle Rabbitt will try to be the first runner in Tech history since Kevin Graham to advance to back-to-back NCAA Championships. The women’s six-kilometer race is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. with the men’s 10K to follow at noon eastern standard time.

Rabbitt, a native of Tyrone, Ga., advanced to the NCAA Championships last year with his fourth place finish in the South Regional Championships. With his performance, Rabbitt became only the third men’s runner in school history to advance to the championships joining Ray Raparelli and Kevin Graham. The senior distance runner will look to become only the second runner in Tech history to advance to the championship in back-to-back years. Graham advanced to the NCAA Championships in 1993 and 1994.

Joining Rabbitt in the men’s race are seniors Neil McDonagh, Barton Crist and Adam Jones, junior Rob Kuhn, and freshmen Ryan Pfeffer and Nazar Trilisky. McDonagh, Crist and Kuhn all ran for the Jackets in the South Regional last fall. McDonagh took third place honors among the Jacket runners finishing behind all-region runners Rabbitt and Brendon Mahoney.

For the women, sophomores Mary Chind and Ann Armsby look to continue their consistent performances this season. The duo has been the top two finishers for Tech in nearly every race this season. Sophomores Chind and Armsby lead the women with freshmen Maria Hampton, Nisha Kurian, Elena Linn and Emily Yandle, and lone senior Jenny Lentz also competing for the Jackets. Chind is the only Georgia Tech runner for the women to compete in last year’s South Regional. She finished behind all-region qualifier Katie Griffin to place second among the Yellow Jacket runners.
