Georgia Tech Battery Jump Starts 4-1 Victory over Auburn

May 16, 2009

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s Kristen Adkins and Jessica Weaver powered the Yellow Jackets to a 4-1 win over Auburn Saturday evening at Mewborn Field in the third game of the Atlanta Regional.

After waiting out a five hour and 30 minute rain delay, the two teams finally took the field at 6:30 p.m. The Tigers struck first after Adkins unloaded a wild pitch, allowing Myesha Benjamin to score with two outs in the first inning.

The Yellow Jackets tied the score in the third when shortstop Jen Yee launched her Atlantic Coast Conference leading 13th homerun of the season to right field off Auburn’s Anna Thompson. In the fourth, Tech took the lead on an Adkins RBI double to center followed by a towering two-run homerun by Weaver to left field.

Thompson, who set the Auburn all-time strikeout record on Friday, pitched 3.2 innings, striking out five but giving up five hits and four runs.

Georgia Tech has moved on to the championship game tomorrow at 1 p.m. Auburn, meanwhile, will face either Iowa or Boston University in an elimination game later tonight.
