Shanghai, China – The Georgia Tech men’s basketball team is getting the experience of a lifetime this week as the Yellow Jackets visit China and open their 2017-18 season against UCLA in the 2017 Pac-12 China Game presented by the Alibaba Group.
The 2017 Pac-12 China Game between UCLA and Georgia Tech will tip off the 2017-18 basketball season and be broadcast live on ESPN at 11:30 p.m. Friday night, Nov. 10. The game is part of Pac-12 Global, an unprecedented effort to promote goodwill for the Conference and its member institutions through sport, and to provide student-athletes with a transformative cultural exchange experience.
The UCLA game in China will be the second time in program history that Georgia Tech will travel to East Asia for a regular-season men’s basketball game. The Yellow Jackets played Boston College and SMU in the 1986 Suntory Ball event in Tokyo, Japan, winning both games.

| On their first full day in China, the Yellow Jackets sought to minimize the effect of jet lag and get everyone’s bodies back on a normal routine. After getting to be after midnight on Saturday, the Jackets got up for breakfast at 9 a.m., then went out for a morning walk along West Lake, which is situated across the street from the team hotel. The street in front of the hotel, Hu Bin Road, earlier had been the scene of the Hangzhou Marathon, with the starting line just half a mile down the street. The Jackets were quite the curiosity among the locals, who were not shy about striking up conversations and taking photos. On first day in China, Jackets become tourist attraction phone app saves the day in China After lunch, athletic trainer Richard Stewart taped up the Jackets in their hotel meeting room, and the team was off to the Dragon Sports Center, near Huanglong Soccer Stadium, about 15 minutes way for a full two-hour practice and a half-hour lifting session. The Jackets returned to the hotel for a two-hour study hall session with academic services director Whitney Burton and a team dinner.
