THE FLATS — The Georgia Tech Athletic Association and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund will participate in #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On December 1, charities, families, businesses, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
Now in its fourth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources.
The A-T Fund is challenging alumni, donors and fans to make a gift on #GivingTuesday to support athletic scholarships. The average annual investment in a GT student-athlete is more than $50,000. Philanthropic support through the A-T Fund gives our student-athletes the opportunity to excel in their sport while receiving an extraordinary education from one of the nation’s finest institutions.
The Alexander-Tharpe Fund is a division of the Georgia Tech Athletic Association and serves as the primary fundraising arm. Gifts and commitments to the A-T Fund have averaged more than $22 million annually during the Institute’s current $1.5 billion 11-year campaign.
