THE FLATS – Installation of new video displays at Georgia Tech’s Russ Chandler Stadium (baseball), Mewborn Field (softball) and Byers Tennis Complex outdoor courts have begun and are slated to be complete before each facility hosts its first event of their respective 2018 seasons, Georgia Tech athletics announced on Tuesday.

In addition to the state-of-the-are Daktronics videoboards already in the process of being installed at Georgia Tech’s baseball, softball and tennis venues, videoboards are also set to be installed at volleyball’s O’Keefe Gymnasium, as well as Callaway Plaza, located on the north exterior of Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Georgia Tech athletics is investing approximately $1.2 million in the new video displays.

“The addition of new videoboards at five of our athletics venues will not only serve to provide an enhanced gameday experience for our student-athletes and fans but will also be an avenue to continue to tell the story and elevate the brand of Georgia Tech athletics,” director of athletics Todd Stansbury said. “This project couldn’t happen without the generous support of everyone who invests in our Everyday Champions.”

The new videoboard at Russ Chandler Stadium is an upgrade to the ballpark’s original video display, which was installed in 2001. The videoboards at Mewborn Field, Byers Tennis Complex, O’Keefe Gym and Callaway Plaza will be the first-ever digital displays at those venues.

The displays currently being installed measure 36-by-31.5 feet (baseball), 26.5-by-18.5 feet (tennis) and 22-by-16.5 feet (softball).

The boards at Russ Chandler Stadium and Mewborn Field will be operational on Feb. 16 when Georgia Tech baseball and softball host their 2018 home openers versus Minnesota and Nebraska, respectively. The debut of the Byers Tennis Complex videoboard will come when the Yellow Jackets hold their first outdoor meet of the 2018 season in February (TBD – dependent on weather).

The video displays at O’Keefe Gym and Callaway Plaza will be installed prior to the 2018 volleyball and football campaigns.
