Fredrick, Nnamaka, and Tringale Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Feb. 13, 2006

Zam Fredrick, Chioma Nnamaka, and Cameron Tringale were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, February 13, 2006.

Fredrick, a sophomore from St. Matthews, SC, notched career highs in both games, first with 19 against the Seminoles and then 22 Sunday against the Wolfpack. He made 16 of 23 shots from the floor, including 6 of 8 three-pointers combined in the two games. His 41 points were scored in 46 minutes of court time. In Sunday’s win over NC State, Fredrick made 9 of 12 shots from the floor, 3 of 4 on threes, while adding six assists and just one turnover. The 6-0 guard clinched the win for Tech by nailing his final three-pointer with 3:22 left for a 67-62 lead, then drove for a baseline jumper at the 1:03 mark to give the Jackets a 71-65 lead.

Nnamaka, a sophomore from Sweden, averaged 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game on the week while shooting 51.5 percent from the field, including a 40 percent mark from three-point range. She had a season-high 25 points at Boston College Thursday night, where she shot over 60 percent from the field. Against NC State, she tied a career-high with five three-pointers where she scored a game-high 19 points.

Playing in just his sixth collegiate tournament, Tringale accomplished something last week that none of his older teammates have done in 107 college tournaments combined by winning the UH-Hilo Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawaii. It was the first victory for a Yellow Jacket player in a team, stroke-play event since current PGA Tour pro Troy Matteson won the 2003 NCAA East Regional. The Laguna Niguel, Calif., native, who shot 65-67 to take the lead after round two, finished at 11-under-par 202 and held off a charge from Travis Toyama of Hawaii (65 – 203) to win by a shot. It was his second top-10 finish in six tournaments.
